Christmas comes twice a year at GOAT. You know that feeling of Christmas eve as a kid – nervous anticipation of what might be the best day of the year. We still get that feeling around Christmas, but around GOAT, we also get that feeling every year in mid-May when our new team of summer interns arrive. As you can well imagine – working with our kids day in and day out, working from dawn until dusk, crying and laughing together – takes a special type of person. Not only a special type of person, but usually eight special people who will need to be instant family to help prop one another up after the days that bring tear, but also to celebrate with one another on the days that bring joy.
Every year we think it can’t get any better, and every year these college students prove us wrong. They show up, wide-eyed, ready to give their summer away for our kids to have a life changing experience. They’ve become so much of a family around here, they’ve over the years adopted the term “friendterns” in place of interns, and they always seem to wander back to GOAT during the summer to meet their newest friendterns and welcome them to the family.
Because we love our interns so much, we want you all to know them, also. Over the next couple of weeks we’ll be introducing them here, but feel free to drop by GOAT and meet them for yourself sometime. We promise they’ll change you for the better.
